I read this article on MailOnline.  It made me so sad.  Some things in life just aren’t fair.  Why do things like this happen to such innocent beings?

E.T. find home? RSPCA struggles to find new owner for Britain’s ugliest mutt

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

With the head of a meerkat and the body of a spotted piglet, ET the dog would come last in any beauty contest.

And sadly for him, he fares equally badly in the popularity stakes.

For the last three months he has been ignored by visitors to the kennels which took over his care after his elderly owner was unable to cope with him.

Yet staff say he has a delightful personality and would make someone a perfect pet.

Please take me home: ET the Mexican hairless dog has been stuck at Hillside Kennels in Waltham Abbey, Essex, for months

‘Normally it only takes a few weeks to find a dog a new home but no one wants ET,’ said Dawn Fields, head kennelmaid at the Hillside Boarding and Rescue Centre in Waltham Abbey, Essex.

‘I think it’s purely because of his looks. We put him in the first kennel people see as they come in but they hurry on past him.

‘Then we put him in the last kennel but nothing seems to help. I can’t understand it – he’s so ugly he’s adorable.’

Four-year-old ET, named for his resemblance to the Spielberg movie alien, is one of only 27 Mexican Hairless dogs in the UK. Miss Fields said: ‘I think his owner obviously had a sense of humour with his name, it suits him though.

Mutt ugly? But E.T.’s genetic baldness is a positive advantage for people who hate vacuuming and RSPCA staff say he has a fantastic personality

‘When he stands up and his head pops up he looks just like a meerkat. He’s got a hairy face and a mowhawk down the back of his head and stops at his shoulders.

‘The other dogs don’t take much notice of him, I think he probably looks at them and thinks they are really ugly.

‘He’s absolutely fantastic – he’s got such a nice temperament which is one of the reasons we are so surprised he hasn’t been snapped up yet.

‘He gets on with anybody and everybody, he loves going for walks and playing with a ball.
‘He got on with the previous owner’s grandchildren and other dogs. He’s very easy to look after – he just needs a little bit of suntan lotion in the summer to stop him getting burned and a jumper or a coat in the colder weather but you won’t have to spend hours hoovering up his hairs as he doesn’t moult.’
